Email Programs
•
A program that allows you to send, receive, compose,
store, and maintain addresses for email
•
Some email programs: OutLook Express, OutLook,
Netscape Communicator, Eudora
Use of Browser & Email Programs
•
An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is required to use
Browsers and email programs
•

AOL is an ISP, but you can only read email from your
ISP (AOL has a proprietary email program)
•
Set dial connection
–
Double click on My Computer
–
Double click on Dial-up Networking
–
Double click on Make new Connection
•
Set TCP/IP parameters in
Dial-up

Right click on New connection
–
Select properties, go to Server Types tab, and click
on TCP/IP settings

Click on Tools in menu bar on IE, select internet
options, then select connections tab
•
Set Dial whenever a network connection is not present
•
Highlight the new connection, & click on Set

Set up the Search icon, and choose your favorite
search providers for web pages, email and snail mail address (must be done when
connected)

Go to programs tab in Internet Options dialog box

•
To set up an email account:

Go to Tools, Accounts and select Add
–
Execute wizard inserting email address, input and
output server name, user id, and password (different from sign-on password)
–
Set connection in Properties
